The Gun Violence Prevention Working Group of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship (PPF) has undertaken a significant effort to update its primary resource, the Gun Violence Prevention Congregational Toolkit. The PPF recognized the need for a comprehensive update to address the pressing issue of gun violence in communities across the United States.

The 2024 edition of the Toolkit offers educational, pastoral, emergency, and worship resources, as well as actionable suggestions for advocacy and action. One notable addition is the Action section, featuring case studies that showcase local congregations engaged in impactful projects such as Guns to Gardens and the Be SMART for Kids Campaign. Moreover, the Toolkit provides over 200 links to additional resources, including actions by PC(USA) and national and local gun violence prevention groups.

A significant highlight of the new edition is the inclusion of an all-new six-session study titled “Courageous Conversations on Gun Violence Prevention.” Crafted by the PPF Working Group for Congregations, this study aims to guide congregations from initial concerns about gun violence to deeper understanding and practical action. Covering topics ranging from the intersection of gun violence with issues like suicide, domestic violence, and racism, this study empowers congregations to effect meaningful change in their communities.

The Toolkit PDF is available as a free download or can be ordered in print for $12 per copy, including postage. The Working Group encourages congregations to acquire both versions, ensuring easy access to resources. Each Toolkit order includes a subscription to the Gun Violence Prevention Congregational E-News, providing regular updates on education, pastoral care, and advocacy. This updated Toolkit serves as a vital tool in empowering congregations to address the epidemic of gun violence and work towards a safer, more just society.
