Preparations continue for the next Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of Lake Michigan which will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2023, at The Presbyterian Church of Okemos.

Avery Arden, an autistic, gender-queer minister residing in Atlanta with their wife and two cats, will give the message. They are a board member  of More Light Presbyterians and creator of the “Blessed Are the Binary Breakers” multifaith podcast of trans stories.

The theme of the meeting will be Lift Up Your People and will  include the presentation of the first reading of the proposed budget of the Presbytery of Lake Michigan for 2024 and the examination of a candidate for ordination

After lunch, there will be a presentation and panel discussion led by Arden and Nominating & Representation Committee members about gender and sexual diversity. The panel will feature presbytery members and congregations speaking about their experiences with the topic.

Teaching elders, ruling elder commissioners, corresponding members, presenters, and staff who will attend the meeting in person at 2258 Bennett Road, Okemos, should register using an online form by Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Others may observe the meeting via a livestream video feed that will be available on the presbytery’s website that day.

A boxed Mediterranean-style sandwich pie lunch will be served. The cost is $14 per person. Vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available. Reservations are due via the advance registration form by Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

The deadline for requesting childcare for the meeting is Tuesday, September 5, 2023 Requests for child care can be made via the advance registration form. Childcare will be available for those 2 to 7 years old.
