True North Campus Ministry– which minsters to students at Grand Rapids Community College, Kendall College of Art and Design and Grand Valley State University —seeks prayers for:
- College and university administrators, faculty and staff as they make decisions about the fall semester that will impact the health and well-being of students, faculty and staff.
- College students living with uncertainty about the fall semester and the long-term effects of life in a pandemic.
- True North and its collaborative partner, the Wesley Fellowship at GVSU, as we seek to faithfully nurture and support our students and discern new ways of doing campus ministry together.
- Our faithful participation in social justice work — particularly that of anti-racism and LGBTQ inclusion — that must happen on campus and in our world.
Some highlights of our recent work
Several Presbyterian campus ministries began an initiative to provide free books about anti-racism to their students. True North joined the movement and will offer a free book to any new or incoming student at GRCC, Kendall or GVSU for as long as our funding permits. Click here to sign up.
All three colleges and universities served by True North closed their physical campuses and moved to on-line learning as the coronavirus crisis unfolded, sending students home with only a few days notice. Like congregations, we rapidly transitioned into a new way of doing ministry. As of early July, we still don’t know what the fall semester will be like. On-campus classes? Distance learning only? A hybrid of the two? Whatever it is, we will be present for students, faculty and staff.
December 2019 — True North partnered with Wesley Fellowship at GVSU and local Presbyterian and United Methodist congregations to provide more than 200 final exam snack bags for students.
True North traditionally hosts activities like the Listening Post, Random Acts of Lunch, workshops with Christian artists and speakers, Bible studies, mentoring and more. Read more about current activities in the spring 2020 newsletter.
