Westminster Presbyterian Church Grand Rapids is honored to host Randal Jelks, Professor of African and African American Studies and American Studies at the University of Kansas, for this event celebrating his book Letters to Martin that was published this year. Letters to Martin contains twelve meditations on contemporary political struggles, evoking Martin Luther King Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” in the form of meditations and letters to King. 

An ordained minister in the PC(USA), Randal Maurice Jelks is a professor, a documentary producer, and award-winning author. Jelks is an executive producer of the documentary I, Too, Sing America: Langston Hughes Unfurled. His writings have appeared in the Boston Review and the Los Angeles Review of Books, and he also serves as co-editor of the academic journal American Studies.
