A proposed change to the Presbytery of Lake Michigan bylaws would align the election terms of the Executive Presbyter and Stated Clerk as the two roles are now held by the same person.
A recommendation to change the bylaws was presented in the Stated Clerk’s report during the presbytery’s June 14, 2022 Stated Meeting, and a final vote on the proposed amendment will be taken during the September 17, 2022 Stated Meeting.
Per the PLM Bylaws, Article VII, Item 80:10, the following text (included in the June 14, 2022 Stated Clerk’s Report to the Presbytery) serves as written notice of the intent to offer an amendment. The Leadership Team recommends the following change so the bylaws remain consistent with current presbytery practice.
Current Bylaw – Article IV. Officers, Item 40:40 Stated Clerk, A
The Stated Clerk shall be elected in September and take office on January 1 of the next year. The Stated Clerk shall serve for one (1) year or until a successor has been elected. The Stated Clerk shall be an ex officio member, without vote, of the Leadership Team and Secretary of the Corporation.
Recommended Change to Article IV. Officers, Item 40:40 Stated Clerk, A
The stated Clerk shall be elected in September and take office on January of the next year. The Stated Clerk shall serve for one (1) year or until a successor has been elected. The Stated Clerk shall be elected at the same time as elected as the Executive Presbyter. The term for the Stated Clerk shall run concurrently with service as the Executive Presbyter. An acting Stated Clerk may be appointed following the conclusion of the term of the Executive Presbyter/Stated Clerk by the Leadership Team until the next Stated Clerk can be elected.
