Siblings in Christ:
I pray you are enjoying the summer and are able to spend time relaxing in the sunshine and warm weather. On June 21, 2026, I will be leaving for General Assembly in Milwaukee, WI. During General Assembly, I will be serving as a Parliamentarian for the Reformed Identity around the World Committee which will consider whether or not to review the process used in the restructuring of the PCUSA World Mission, a recommendation for a New Missiological Statement for the PCUSA, a recommendation calling for the PCUSA to recognize that Israel has Violated the Internation Law Prohibiting Genocide, and Advocacy for Religious Minorities in Syria to name a few items. I will also serve as a Parliamentarian during the Plenary Session, and finally, I am serving as the Corresponding Members from the Special Committee on the PCUSA and Race, and will be presenting the Special Committees report to the Racial Justice Committee. It will be a busy time, but I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Christ’s church in this way. If there are concerns that arise during my time at General Assembly, please contact me via email or phone and I will be in touch as soon as I am able.
After General Assembly, I will return for approximately two weeks before leaving for sabbatical. I will be away for sabbatical from July 20, 2026 through October 19, 2026. Mainly, I will be reconnecting with family and friends in ways that the busyness of ministry sometimes will not allow. I have fun trips planned beginning with a tour around the shoreline of Michigan, then onto to Maine, Yellowstone, the Grant Tetons, Albuquerque, the Smokey Mountains, and finally, spending several weeks in Puerto Rico in a Spanish Immersion program. I am looking forward to rest, reconnection, nature, and learning. Thank you for this opportunity to step away, refresh, and gain new perspectives so I can return rejuvenated and ready to partner once again in ministry.
While I am away, Rev. Kristin Stroble, Rev. Cal Bremer, Rev. Annamarie Groenenboom, and Rev. Ted McCulloch (Stated Clerk, Lake Huron) will be stepping in to cover any gaps my absence present. This is in addition to their regular duties. My friend and colleague, Rev. Ted McCulloch will serve as the clerk pro tem and parliamentarian for the stated meeting in September. Ted is available if there are any polity questions or interpretations of the PCUSA constitution are needed. I am so grateful for his support and for his willingness to serve.
Kristin can be contacted for any questions about congregational support and any COM related items. In addition, she will fill the gap I leave in working with congregations and pastors in crisis. Cal can be contacted for questions related to Administrative Commissions and Finance. Both Cal and Kristin will provide approval for expenditures, serve as contact for legal counsel, if necessary, serve as head of staff and provide answers to questions about staff, and serve as spokespersons for the presbytery during my absence.
Annamarie will be supporting the Nominating and Representation Committee in my absence, will be able to sign documents that require the signature of the stated clerk, and respond to less complex polity questions not related to COM matters.
If you have any questions prior to July 20, please feel free to reach out by phone or email. After that time, please reach out to Kristin, Cal, or Annamarie. Thank you again.
Peace in Christ,
Fran
