Donations are being collected by the United Campus Christian Fellowship (UCCF) to assemble “finals” snack bags for Grand Rapids area college students.
“The finals snack bags are a gift to the students. No strings. No tricks. We don’t ask for contact information or require them to attend anything,” says UCCF campus minister Nancy Janisch. “These bags are an embodiment of God’s love for them.”
UCCF will distribute the lunch-size paper bags filled with commercially packaged snacks the week of December 5 to students at Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids Community College and Kendall College of Art and Design.
Congregation members can create and fill bags, often decorated with encouraging thoughts, at home or as a group project. Donated supplies and financial contributions also are welcome.
Each bag is filled with single-serving, pre-packaged, non-perishable items like granola or protein bars; microwavable items like popcorn, soup and oatmeal; chips or cookies; candy; drink mixes, tea or coffee, and dried fruit. Please no homemade items, fresh fruit, repackaged items or liquids.
UCCF volunteers can pick up donations the week of November 28. Contact Janisch at nancy@uccfmi.org or (616) 710-1605 to get more information or to schedule a pickup.
