Lansing First Presbyterian Church’s Mission and Social Justice Committee and the Justice League of Greater Lansing Michigan (JLGLM) are launching a first-year Anniversary Community Celebration with multiple events over three days in October.

Many events involve discussions led by the Rev. Jimmie R. Hawkins – director of the PC(USA) Office of Public Witness in Washington, D.C. and author of Unbroken and Unbowed: The History of Black Protest in America. The informative book walks the reader through the many forms of Black protest in American History, from precolonial times through the George Floyd protests of 2020.

The events will include:

  • A book discussion and signing from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 14, at Socialight Society Bookstore in Lansing Mall. Register at https://www.socialightsociety.com/rsvp/p/1014.
  • A book  signing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with discussion from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 15, at the downtown branch of the Capital Area District Library. Register at https://www.facebook.com/events/637951951047840 .
  • Worship with Rev. Hawkins preaching at 10 a.m. Sunday, October 16, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, 510 West Ottawa Street, Lansing.
  • Conversations with Rev. Hawkins at 7 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1315 Abbot Road, East Lansing.
