Siblings in Christ:

We just received notification that the Governor has given the signed the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order, temporarily suspending in person operations that are not necessary to sustain or protect life.  Michiganders are instructed to stay in their homes.  The order is effective beginning March 24, 2020 at midnight, for at least the next three weeks.  During that time individuals may only leave their home or place of residence under very limited circumstances.

Therefore, the presbytery office will remain closed until at least April 14, 2020.  Presbytery staff will continue to work from their homes.  You may contact them as always by email or phone.  The presbytery will continue with operations through virtual technologies.  All the commissions and committees of the presbytery are meeting by digital means.  If your church would like to make use of the presbytery electronic meeting platform, ZOOM, please contact the Sharon Carper, Office Manager (, to schedule your meeting.  We are working around presbytery committees that are already schedules and are scheduling meetings on a first come, first serve basis.

Friends, I know this is a very anxiety provoking and even scary for some.  At this point, many of us know personally loved ones or members of our faith communities who have contracted the COVID-19 virus.

In Isaiah 41, God is talking to the faithful and God says, “. . . do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand (Isaiah 41:10).

No matter what situation in which we find ourselves, we can know beyond any doubt that God is present with us.  We will continue to be the people of God.  We will continue to minister to those around us.  We will continue to worship our God and to proclaim the gospel in both word and deed during this time.  Beloved, take care and be safe.

Your Servant in Christ,

Fran Lane-Lawrence
Presbytery Transitional Co-Leader/Stated Clerk
