The Presbytery of Lake Michigan approved specific actions at its December 4, 2018 Stated Meeting related to the sale of properties owned by the presbytery.

The Leadership Team, in concert with the Budget and Finance Committee, is taking steps to implement those decisions. The letter below contains excerpts from the December 4, 2018 Stated Meeting minutes describing the approved actions along with the parameters and formulae for implementing these provisions.

Some of the actions approved during the December 4, 2018 Stated Meeting provide funds for three scholarship programs

  • Camping Ministries — to help any young person affiliated with a congregation or missional worshipping community within the presbytery go to Camp Greenwood or any Presbyterian-related camp within Michigan, Ohio, or Indiana.
  • Youth Ministries — to support the leadership development of children and youth as recommended by the Dynamic Leaders Team.
  • Congregational/ Worshiping Communities — to help congregations and worshipping communities within the presbytery be healthy and vital ministries, with special focus on missional community outreach, justice ministries and nurturing new worshipping communities.

Applications for all three scholarship programs are linked above and are also on the Documents page under the heading “Scholarship and Grant Information.”

Please note that completed applications for the 2020 scholarship funds must be returned by Monday, April 20, via email to office@lakemichiganpresbytery.org or in paper form to 1511 Helen Avenue, Portage, MI. The Leadership Team or its designee will act on the applications by Thursday, May 14; applicants will be notified on or before Thursday, May 21.

We encourage all congregations and faith communities to publicize their funding opportunities — and deadlines — to the appropriate people or committee within your community.
