As people around the world pause this month to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy of social justice, consider these taking one — or both — of these courses being offered by the Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary.
Drum Major for Justice — A Certificate Program in Public Theology
Dr. King said, “It may well be that we will have to repent in this generation, not merely for the vitriolic words and the violent actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence and indifference of the good people who sit around and say ‘wait on time.’” In light of this belief, many Christians are looking for meaningful ways to connect their faith with the societal issues of today. The purpose of this self-paced, online certificate program is to give people tools to do exactly that.
Christian Civic Engagement — A 2-Week Mini-Course
When Christians view civic engagement in light of the social responsibility described in the Bible, big things can happen. New, sometimes unlikely, relationships are established; educational and vocational opportunities increase; access and equity improve. The purpose of this online mini-course is to help everyday people figure out how to engage their faith to further Dr. King’s legacy.
