Friends:

Some of you may have received a letter from the Boy Scouts of America notifying you that they are in the process of restructuring and filing for bankruptcy.  This notice only pertains to those congregations who have chartered or hosted Boy Scout Troops within their churches any time in the past.  If your congregation did not charter or host Boy Scout Troops in the past, no further action is necessary.

The letter Scouts of America is informing you of the deadline of November 16, 2020 to file claims against the Boy Scouts of America if you know of or suspect there were any cases of child sexual abuse during the time the Boy Scouts were active in your buildings and on your property.  If you suspect or know of a case, you are encouraged to consult with an attorney.

I have included a Q & A sheet from PC(USA) Attorney, Mike Kirk, forwarded to us by the PC(USA) Office of the General Assembly.  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,

Rev. Fran Lane-Lawrence
