Rev. Dr. William Yoo, Associate Professor of American Religious and Cultural History and Director of the Master of Divinity Program at Columbia Theological Seminary will be the presenter for the HAL Lecture at the People’s Church in East Lansing, MI on November 11-12, 2024. ColumbiaTheological Seminary is a PCUSA seminary located in Decatur, GA. Dr. Yoo’s presentation is entitled, “Striving and Struggling for a More Perfect Faith and a More Perfect Union: The Past, Present, and Future of Racism and American Christianity.”

In preparation for Dr. Yoo’s presentation, the Presbytery of Lake Michigan will host a book study of Dr. Yoo’s book, What Kind of Christianity: A History of Slavery and Anti-Black Racism in the Presbyterian Church led by Rev. Dr. Fran Lane-Lawrence. This book was one of the primary resources used in her Doctor of Ministry project.

The book study will be offered both in-person (in the conference room of the Presbytery office 1511 Helen Avenue) and also via Zoom on the following Mondays, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm :
