Applications are now available from the Synod of the Covenant for higher education scholarships for Christian leaders.

These scholarships support students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree, certification, or a master’s degree in theology at colleges, universities, and vocational schools. Applicants must demonstrate Christian leadership, particularly in helping churches or ministries thrive, addressing structural racism, and engaging with issues of poverty. Eligible candidates include active participants in congregations, new worshiping communities, or campus ministries within the Synod of the Covenant. Scholarships can be applied for annually, up to five years, with a minimum 2.0 GPA requirement.

The application deadline is September 1, 2024, and only complete applications will be considered. Priority is given to Black, Indigenous, or People of Color and those with significant financial need. Applicants and their sponsoring ministries will be notified by October 15, 2024.

All applications must include the following three documents:

  1. Scholarship Application
  2. Christian Leadership Statement: A statement detailing how the student demonstrates Christian leadership in the church or school, particularly in supporting congregations or ministries, addressing racial injustice, and engaging in anti-poverty efforts.
  3. Endorsement Letter: A letter from a ministry leader endorsing the student, which should be emailed separately as specified in the application instructions.

Scholarship amounts are based on need, academic standing, and contributions to the Synod’s goals. Awardees are encouraged to create a short “thank you” video for a celebratory composite video.
