Three different boundary training classes will be offered during 2022 through a partnership between the Synod of the Covenant and its member presbyteries.

The cost of all the boundary training classes – presented by LeaderWise – is fully covered by the Synod and presbyteries.

Two sessions of the introductory “Not-Your-Average Boundaries Training” will be offered:

  • Monday and Tuesday, March 14 and 15, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Registration is due by Friday, March 4.
  • Wednesday and Thursday, November 16 and 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Registration is due by Monday, November 7.

This class is open to both teaching and ruling elders, but participants must attend both sessions to receive credit for completing the program

One session of the advanced boundaries training will be offered:

  • Wednesday and Thursday, May 11 and 12, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Registration is due by Monday, May 2.

The class is open to both teaching and ruling elders who have taken the introductory boundaries training through LeaderWise in the past year. Participants will reflect on experiences since the first training and delve deeper into topics like triangulation, bender, leader/ retiring well, and other topics.

One session of the congregation-centered Healthy Church Boundaries training will be offered:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday, October 4 and 5, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Registration is due by Friday, September 23.

This class is open to teaching and ruling elders PLUS lay leaders and key members of congregations to help them understand healthy boundaries in the system of the church.

Completing one of the two introductory course sessions fulfills the Presbytery of Lake Michigan Sexual Misconduct Policy mandate that all teaching elders active in ministry within the bound of the Presbytery complete boundaries and ethics training. The mandate applies to all teaching elders who are actively serving in congregations or in validated ministry, including members-at-large, Honorably Retired members, Commissioned Ruling Elders (CREs), and Christian educators (CCEs.) Participants must submit a copy of their course completion certificate to office@lakemichiganpresbytery.org for the Presbytery files.
