Discussions about the Presbytery of Lake Michigan Statement about “The Sin of Racism” will be held as we consider, as a presbytery, whether to formally adopt the statement during the June 8, 2021 Stated Meeting.
A first reading of the attached statement was presented during the March 13, 2021 Stated Meeting of the Presbytery as part of the packet and noted in the consent Agenda. The statement is in response to the call of the 224th General Assembly (2020) by adopting portions of that statement as specific commitments by the presbytery and as recommendations to its congregations for actions.
All members of congregations with the presbytery and all members of the presbytery are being offered an opportunity to engage in conversations about the statement via Zoom at:
3 p.m.
Sunday, April 25, 2021
Noon
Tuesday, April 27, 2021
7 p.m.
Wednesday, April 28, 2021
Conversations will be facilitated by the Rev. Stan Jenkins and Elder Allison Goshorn along with representatives from North Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo who made the original request that the statement be considered.
Conversations are open to all pastors, ruling elders, clerks of session, treasurers and any congregation members within the bounds of the presbytery. The Leadership Team requests that members of the same congregation choose one of the Zoom meetings and attend together to facilitate deeper and more meaningful conversation.
To accommodate as many people as possible and keep participant levels at numbers that allow for rich and meaningful conversation, advance registration is required. Each person must register individually but, again, members of the same congregation are asked to register for the same session so that they can share the information with others in their congregation who were not able to attend. Click below to register. The last day to register is Wednesday, April 21, 2021.
Those who register to attend a session will get an email with the Zoom link details one day before the event. The information will be sent to the email participants provide during the registration process.
